Medical Microneedling vs hyperpigmentation - Fact vs Fiction
The purpose of this topic is to create an understanding as to whether medical microneedling presents an effective means for skin rejuvenation without the risk of damaging the basale located melanocytes. When it comes to the treatment of photo-damaged skin, generally the skin is treated by ablative modalities that injure the epidermis and dermal/epidermal junction, leading to scar tissue of the papillary dermis. Damage to the epidermis can significantly cause potential adverse effects such as dyspigmentation (hyper and/or hypo pigmentation). It has been documented in clinical trials that percutaneous medical microneedling, is an alternative for safely treating wrinkles, dermal scarring and for smoothing the skin without the risk of developing pigmentation disorders.
