Choosing a NZSCM-Accredited Doctor
Why choosing an accredited practitioner matters.
The Value of Medical Training
All NZSCM-accredited doctors begin their careers by completing a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB), or the overseas equivalent, a six-year medical degree that includes intensive study of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and pathology, followed by years of supervised clinical practice. Doctors must then gain vocational registration in a recognised medical specialty, such as general practice, ophthalmology, or surgery, before they are eligible to enrol the NZSCM Diploma in Cosmetic Medicine. This foundational training gives doctors a deep understanding of how the body works, how to manage risk, and how to make safe, evidence-based decisions, skills that are essential in cosmetic medicine.
Not only that, but this clinical experience also develops important skills such as consultation, patient communication, and diagnostic judgement, all of which are important when tailoring cosmetic medicine treatments to individual needs.
This depth of knowledge sets NZSCM doctors apart. While many healthcare practitioners offer cosmetic medicine treatments, doctors bring a broader and more advanced level of clinical training, enabling them to assess complex cases, manage complications, and provide care that is rooted in sound medical judgement
Why Choose an NZSCM-Accredited Doctor?
When it comes to cosmetic medicine treatments, choosing a well-trained, registered healthcare practitioner is essential for achieving the best results safely and effectively. At NZSCM, we are proud to set the standard in cosmetic medicine, leading the way in training, patient safety, and quality care. Our accredited doctors undergo a comprehensive process to ensure they consistently meet and exceed the latest standards.
Our Rigorous Accreditation and Training Standards
NZSCM sets the benchmark for excellence in cosmetic medicine, with a comprehensive training programme, assessment, audits, and ongoing professional development that no other organisation in New Zealand currently matches.
- The NZSCM Diploma in Cosmetic Medicine: All NZSCM members are required to complete a Diploma in Cosmetic Medicine, a specialised qualification that goes far beyond the basics of cosmetic medicine treatments. This comprehensive programme covers advanced techniques, clinical safety, and the latest innovations in the field, providing our doctors with the expertise to perform complex procedures with confidence. This is a 2-year-long Post Graduate Diploma, which takes over 500 hours to complete. The programme is taught by expert trainers, ensuring our doctors receive the highest standard of education and practical guidance.
-
Assessments and Examinations: As part of our training programme, our trainees are thoroughly assessed through practical assessments, written exams, Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE), and comprehensive evaluations. These tests ensure that every doctor is not only capable but fully competent in administering the latest cosmetic procedures with a deep understanding of safety protocols and best practices.
- Ongoing CPD and Triennial Audits: To ensure our members remain at the forefront of their practice, NZSCM-accredited doctors must engage in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities and undergo triennial audits. These audits assess their clinical practices, compliance with the latest safety standards, and ongoing education. It’s through this commitment to lifelong learning that our doctors maintain the highest level of expertise.
- Comprehensive Clinical Guidelines & Protocols: Our doctors adhere to the strictest clinical guidelines and Protocols, ensuring patient safety is always the top priority.
